How can I build H.O.P.E.?

Hospitality

  • You may enjoy learning the demographic makeup of your community and exploring the reason people participate in faith communities and the reasons they do not. Use these interests to help fuel decision making about how to build relationships with new people.
  • Use your ability to look for, understand, and explain the underlying causes for why people are and why people are not reaching out and welcoming new people.
  • Get to the root cause will help you identify a thoughtful approach to building relationships with people in your community who are not connected to a faith community.

Offer Christ

  • You want a logical invitation to commit to Christ through baptism.
  • Explore the historic and biblical roots of baptism so you can understand the reasoning behind baptism.
  • Examine the data for your church or the church at large on baptism.
  • Be patient with processes. You will likely gather information about all the factors that contribute to a faith decision before making it.

Practice

  • Connect Scripture in the New Testament to the Hebrew Scriptures. The link between the Old and New Testaments, as well as between Gospels, Letters, and Psalms will help you understand the original meaning.
  • You may enjoy word studies within Scripture. Explore the patterns and places words appear.
  • Take time to read about how different people pray. Their story can serve as data to help you understand the purpose of faith.

Engage

  • Look at data for poverty, homelessness, abuse, addiction, people with disabilities, foreclosure, etc., in your community.  Ask how the church can help.
  • Find data to back up a need that you are willing to invest time and/or money.
  • Your desire to get to the root of a problem partnered with a relationship building talent can be a powerful force for change.
  • Your logical, objective approach may help children and senior citizens make decisions wisely and thoughtfully.
