How can I build H.O.P.E.?

Hospitality

– Think about it. Hospitality is not just coffee and donuts on Sunday morning. It’s about being a person who shares God’s love with others and welcomes them into the community.

– What do the Scriptures tell us about hospitality?

– What do historic Christian writings tell us about hospitality?

– What do other people and traditions have to teach us about hospitality?

– Think about how other people like to be welcomed into something new. Reflect on what it might mean to be a blessing to someone by welcoming them into the community.

Offer Christ

– Think about the meaning of baptism and share your learning with others.

– Reflect on the times you’ve said “yes” to Jesus.

– What does “yes” mean to you? to your community? to the body of Christ? Share your thinking with others, especially people taking the next step in their faith.

– Remember that your thinking time brings with it clarity and confidence. Partner with someone to share your ideas with new believers in thoughtful ways.

Practice

– Ruminate on Scripture, the people in the Bible, the arc of storytelling found in Scripture. Reflect on life and what you believe to be true because of the Scriptures. You may enjoy turning ideas around in your head and then asking what are you going to do about it?

– Reflect on the groups, classes, prayers that can be taught. Partner with an executing talent to get it done.

– Reflect on what prayers mean. Read. Pray. Reflect.

– You can bring depth, clarity, wisdom, and energy to complicated subjects. Use this talent to help others simplify a message.

Engage

– Research & reflect on the different opportunities to serve beyond the church walls.

– Approach your thinking by answering questions like, “Who do I want to serve? Who might help bring my thoughts to life? Who can I partner with to act on what I am thinking?”

– Explore what it means to be serving with people who may be different from you, but still like you. Take time to think about where you witness Jesus in acts of service.

– You may have other themes that will help you share your faith. Use the ideas you generate as catalysts to help new people enter into serving with others.
